This years NBA finals is between none other that the celtics and Lakers. So far it has been an exctining series with every game being close and exciting. Both teams are very evenly matched and both have a good mix of rising stars and seasoned veterans on there teams. Last night was game 5 and it was anything but dissapointing, the celtics were able to pull out a victory with key performances by veteran Paul Pierce and young point gurard Rajon Rondo. After last night the celtics have gone up in the series 3-2 hovever the next two games will be played in L.A. which will make things interesting.
I am usually not much of an NBA fan but this series has really gotten my back in to basketball. Both these teams clearly deserve to be at this stage in the season and both teams are refusing to go home with out the title. After seeing the celtics win last night I am predicting them to win it all in game 7.

Senior Reflection 2-Grad Parties
As the end of high school approaches so do a large amount of grad parties. A lot of my friends dislike grad parties and think they are a a waste of time but i personally enjoy attending them. This is mainly because of the free food that is there, lately its been usually sandwiches or mexican food, but aside from that i like them for other reasons too.
My grad party is on this upcoming sunday and I am really looking forward to it. Im doing it with two of my closest friends at a pool nearby. Im getting 300 wings and 20 pizzas from one of my favorite restraunts too! Some other highlights at the party include a cotton candy machine and snow cone machine too.

Current Event 2-World Cup 2010
This world cup of 2010 will be hosted in South Africa. The world cup occurs every four years and consists of 32 teams, with 4 teams being in each group. This year the U.S. has been placed in a group consisting of England, Serbia and Algeria, the toughest opponent is England in this group. The U.S played England in their first match of the world cup and tied them one to one with the U.S scoring a goal that should have been a routine save by the goalie. The U.S's next two games should be wins which would allow them to move on to the next round.
All though soccer is not my favorite sport or even in my top 3, I am still very excited for the world cup. With the U.S coming in second place in the fifa cup last summer they proved they have a chance to do better than usual this time. I also feel that much like the olympics, the world cup does a great job of uniting different countries and bringing the whole world together.

Reflection 1: Prom 2010
Prom was very fun this year. It started with pictures at lake newport which consisted of 42 kids and around 84 parents all trying to take pictures on a small dock. This was my least favorite part of the prom experience because of the amount of chaos that was there. After that we boarded the coach bus that was provided by the one and only Austin Moore. The bus was actually less crapy than I thought and the ride from pictures to the restraunt was fun. The restraunt we ate at was called Sakuras which was a japanese steak house the food was great and the japanese chefs doing all there sweet cooking tricks were really cool too. Finally we arrived at the dance, we ended up staying there for about 2 hours but it felt like we were barely there. After the dance we all went back to (your favorite person) Joe Eftecharis house to hang out. All in all prom was a great time even with the 42 person group.
CE 1 Marion Jones makes her WNBA debut
This saturday former Olympic sprinter Marion Jones made her debut in the WNBA. Marion Jones was stripped of 5 gold medals after lying to federal investigators about her involvement with performance enhancing drugs. Marion Jones made her debut for Tulsa in which they lost too Minnessota. She played a total of 3 minutes and 19 seconds with her only stat being a foul. Although many may be dissapointed with her debut Jones wasn't dissatisfied with her play since she hadn't played in serious competition since college.
I was very interested when I saw this article about Marion Jones. I think it is good that she made a return to professional sports and didn't give up on her passion becuase of a series of bad incidents.

The editorial I read is about property rights in the U.S. The specific case mentioned in this editorial involves the Alexandria Sanitation Authority's seizure of private land off Eisenhower Avenue owned for four decades by Alexandria real estate tycoon Charles R. Hoof. The Alexandria Sanitation Authority appraised Mr. Hoof's land for less than half the calue of what Hoof claims it to be. There are many other cases and disputes similar to this around the country.
After reading this editorial I am on the authors side and think that the government acquiring privately owned land isn't right. I feel that the government should not only give the owner a fair price for the land they should also give the owner some type of reward or incentive when selling the land to the government.

This topic was sparked when Tom Hanks expressed this idea in an interview about his new series "The Pacific". The author of the editorial goes on to explain how racism did play a part through out the war but it was definitely not the overall cause of the war. He then goes in to the specifics about how exactly the U.S got in to the war and how race was not a factor when entering the war.
I agree with the overall idea of this editorial and feel that racism was not the main focus or cause of the war. I feel that racism was more of a theme or even result that came with the war. This editorial is about a law that restricts Virginians from carrying concealed weapons in places that serve alcohol. The Virginia house of delegates voted to overturn this restriction by a large majority but governor Mcdonnell has to sign this in order for it to be overturned. The author of this goes on to argue that people carrying these guns are people with permits which means that they are law abiding citizens that ttherefore have the right to protect themselves even if alcohol is involved.
I agree with the author on this issue and think that this restriction should be repealed. Although it does make logical sense that a person under the influence could be more dangerous with a weapon that doesn't neccesarily mean that they should ban guns in saloons. In my opinion there is simply just not enough evidence to support that this restriction on gun carrying is a good idea.

This was a very interesting ediotrial about the government regulating the shape of a hot dog. Thee FDA is trying to chnage the shape so kids don't choke on it. The idea of this came from 2006 when there was aprroximately 11-13 hot dog choking deaths. The author of this editorial feels that the shape should not be changed because kids ate approximately 1.8billion hotdogs and with only 11 dying the risk rate is incredible small. He goes on to say that crossing the street and riding a bike have much higher risk rates than eating hot dogs.
I agree with this editorial and think that the government should not change the shape of a hot dog. The risk is too small and many Americans including me would be very dissapointed if the classic hot dog shape was significantly altered. I think it would be more affective if this information was posted on the package that way parents could choose to let there kids eat them or not.

Editorial #1
The focus of this editorial is on the issue of Virginia gun control. More specifically it talks about the one gun per month law in Virginia and how the state is ready to repeal it. They arguement they are using is that this law is not troubling harmful criminals it is troubling law abididing citizens. They back this arguement by using research that shows that this law did not lower crime rate. Also Virginia is one of the only states that still has this law in affect.
I agree with this editorial and think that Virginia should get rid of the one gun per month law. If the law was put in to affect to lower crime rate and the law is not doing that I think that means that the law should not be in affect. From what I could gather from this editorial it seems that this law is just a big inconvienince to law abiding hunters, and gun enthusiasts that would want or even need to buy more than one gun per month.

My Choice Martin Luther King Jr
For my blog this week I wanted to write about Martin Luther King Jr simply becuase we go a day off from school because of this guy. I wanted to give a brief outline of his accomplishments so people will know why we get a day off becuase of him. In 1957 King was elected president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference he would use this power as a basis to start his campaign for civil rights. In an eleven year period between 1957 and 1968, King spoke over twenty-five hundred times and wrote five books.
In these years he had some huge accomplishments. One was when he led a massive protest in Birmingham, Alabama. This was where he was able to write his monumental piece titled "Letter from a Birmingham Jail", which was a summary of his feelings on civil rights and more specifically his feeling on the treatment of African Americans. King also directed the peaceful march on Washington, D.C. This consisted of 250,000 people. It was at this gathering where king delivered his famous "l Have a Dream", speech.
To show how strong King was in his fight for civil equality he was arrested over twenty times and assaulted four times. Some of his honors that he recieved for his actions included five honorary degrees, being named Man of the Year by Time magazine in 1963, most importantly he will always be remembered as the main leader in the fight for civil equality.

4.The cartoons message is that Obama did not do too much regarding these 4 major issues and he may have even made them worse.
5.I agree with the message in this cartoon. In regards to health care only small steps have been taken to pass a bill that congress can agree on. As far as the war on terror goes Obama may have complicated the problem by increasing the amount of troops in Afghanistan. When looking at the financial crisis there is still lots of unemployment in the U.S and he has done little in regards to climate change.

2011 Political Predictions
I honestly don't know what will happen politically in the year of 2010. For starters I think the healthcare bill will be passed by the end of the year however it will probably be very differnet than the one being debated right now. I do think the economy will be improving however I don't think it will be completely resolved for another few years. One thing that I am curious to see is if the increase in the amount of troops in Afghanistan will improve the situation there. I hope and predict that this increase will eventually end the war by the end of the year.

5.For the most part I disagree with the message I think it is too harsh on homeland security. I feel safe here and don't see any major problems. However with the whole airplane bomb on Christmas it does show that there are imperfections in the system.
